Virginia Delegate Jason Miyares gave what perhaps had to be the most powerful speech on the floor of the House of Delegates that I personally have ever heard delivered.

The topic?  Governor McAuliffe’s engagement with Communist-held Cuba and the promotion of business opportunities there. Miyares — a Virginian of Cuban descent — notice that there was something missing in McAuliffe’s “engagement” with Cuba… namely any mention of Cuba’s human rights violations.

Watch this.

The applause lasted for nearly a minute. Republicans rose; Democrats remained seated… but all applauded.

For one?  I am still haunted by this powerful line:

Sirley Leon… you may see she doesn’t have a hand… because she spoke out against the government shutting down the only school in her locality and they sent a security force with a machete — and chopped it off.

Knock, knock.

Well done, Delegate Miyares — all of Virginia is proud of you.

Bravo Delegate Jason Miyares! Great speech! Pro-democracy Cuban exiles and dissidents are proud of you. Keep up the good work. Stand for what is right even if you stand alone. God bless you!
